Speed
This is a theoretical transfer rate. Wi-Fi, the file server and other traffic can reduce actual downloads. Binary units such as MiB/s and GiB differ from the decimal units used here.
How does the conversion work?
One byte equals eight bits. Divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s; multiply MB/s by 8 to get Mbps. For example, 100 Mbps equals a theoretical 12.5 MB/s. This calculator uses decimal units: 1 Gbps equals 1000 Mbps.
Common download speed conversions
| Internet speed | Theoretical file speed |
|---|---|
| 10 Mbps | 1.25 MB/s |
| 20 Mbps | 2.5 MB/s |
| 50 Mbps | 6.25 MB/s |
| 100 Mbps | 12.5 MB/s |
| 200 Mbps | 25 MB/s |
| 500 Mbps | 62.5 MB/s |
| 1000 Mbps | 125 MB/s |
